This commission involving both new build and renovation in an existing building required to be conceived, designed and on site within five months from appointment. We developed a design brief with the client by way of detailed costed feasibility studies, procured planning and listed building and building control approvals and completed detailed working drawings to go out to tender.
The project for The Thomas Coram Foundation for Children (now known as Coram Family) is a unique childcare related facility.
The development comprises a nursery school for 0-5 years, facilities for special needs children run by the national charity KIDS, a Parents & Training Centre, health care facilities for Camden and Islington Health Authority, headquarters for Coram Family, landscaping and playground design.
We undertook all the specialist interior and furniture design included playground play equipment. We worked with and coordinated the work of community artists who undertook mosaic work with contributions from the nursery school children.
This holistic childcare centre received national recognition when named one of the five national Centres of Childcare Excellence.
